Description: Banská Štiavnica is a historic free royal mining town in the heart of central Slovakia. It became famous mainly for the mining of precious metals; the first written mention of silver mining dates back to 1217, and subsequently in 1238 Banská Štiavnica received town privileges. Since 1993, it has been included in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
