Description:
Benevár is located on the southern part of the Mátra, on the border of Mátrafüred, at about 470 meters altitude.
The grandson of Edömér, one of Prince Árpád's commanders – the knight Bene – was probably the first owner of the large pagan castle named Benevár after him. The castle destroyed during the Tatar invasion was rebuilt between 1243-1250 by Csobánka of the Aba clan and made the family's seat.
