Suggestive almost intact medieval village, of Etruscan-Roman origins, is mentioned in 9th century documents of the Badia Amiatina di San Salvatore, with the name Casale Mustia. In some texts kept at the State Archive of Siena dating back to 1213, it appears under the name Castel Mozzo. Its inhabitants simply call it Castello.
