Description:
The castle was probably built in the first half of the 12th century. In 1160 it is mentioned under the name Rotenstein as Bamberg property. Towards the end of the 12th century it was one of the clearing centers of the Counts of Clam-Velburg. Its first documented mention dates from 1209.
