Description:
Cima Castelberto. From Passo Fittanze, 1400m., where the monument to the Fallen is located, we took the uphill trail towards Malga Lessinia which represents a historical reference point, built to provide hospitality to troops fighting along the nearby Austro-Hungarian border still visible along the route today. Continued to Ridotto del Pidocchio and then reached Rifugio Castelberto, located on the northernmost tip of the Monti Lessini plateau, this remote and sober seasonal hut is housed in a former First World War barracks, surrounded by ancient trenches, at 1765 meters altitude. From here enjoys a panorama over all of Lessinia, over Val d’Adige on the nearby peaks of Carega and Pasubio, as well as on the frame of Monte Baldo and Altissimo, ranging to Carrè Alto, Presanella and the Brenta Group. We took the return route along a suggestive and simple alpine path, along which we encountered some beautiful malgas and walked a forest road immersed in silence. Out of the vegetation, we walked the last stretch skirting a wood of secular beeches, and thus to the starting point.
