This is an easy excursion, little more than a walk in the Rolle Pass area, reaching an extraordinary squat isolated summit, a panoramic balcony over the scenic peaks of the northern chain of the Pale di San Martino. The absolute protagonist is the unmistakable Cimon della Pala, the 'Matterhorn of the Dolomites'. Due to its fortunate position, the summit of Castelaz (Italianized to Castellazzo) was an observation point from the rear during the first phase of the Great War, and some imperial military settlements were prepared there, coordinated with the Lagorai front line. The positions were boldly conquered but held only briefly by the Italians.
