Description: I know that it's normal when normal people do normal things. The probability of poking your eye out with a toothbrush while brushing your teeth is similar to a terrorist sitting in front of you on the tram to Výtoň blowing himself up with an explosive on his body while you're commuting to work. But there are also quite almost normal people who occasionally like to do things differently, more, and altogether. And when two such lunatics meet, everything starts falling into place, just like yesterday. My buddy Roman from Holic and I once had the idea that it would be interesting to traverse all the eight-hundred-meter peaks of Vysočina in one go. However, a closer study of the map revealed that the highest point of the Českomoravská vrchovina is some Javořice (837 m) located over sixty kilometers as the crow flies from the "rest" of all Vysočina eight-hundreds and Žďárské vrchy. And that's dumb. But Roman and I didn't give up, and yesterday after the noon bells on the square in Telč, we set out on our gravel bikes first to Javořice, then a hundred kilometers north to Vysočina with a solid 1500 meters of elevation gain. As the start and finish of the "Crown of Vysočina," we logically chose Nové Město na Moravě, where we needed to leave our bikes safely. I vaguely recalled that the only Czech holder of the Himalaya Crown, Radek Jaroš, lives around here, so we discreetly tossed the bikes into his shed while he was out. We were both half-naked changing from cycling gear to hiking clothes when Radek's Olga caught us at the shed and asked without blinking: "Do you like boletus?" Dinner was secured, and at sunset we finally headed for the remaining seventeen summits! We covered 63 km with 1800 m elevation gain in fourteen hours through evening, night, dawn, and a thoroughly soaked morning that cost me several disgustingly huge bloody blisters from too-tight boots. Though Olga shouldn't have been home, we caught her unexpectedly leaving for work. She dropped her work things right away and posed another very simple question: "So eggs with bacon, or without?" I'll never forget this night when I burned 7000 kcal and endured eighteen painful ascents. And once my feet heal, those memories will be purely beautiful. Thanks Roman for being such a beast and holding me up like that at the end! My body has plenty to ponder now.
