Description: Video of my sunset hike on Matajur, a 1641-metre Julian Pre-Alps mountain on the Italian-Slovenian border. Despite its limited height, thanks to its isolated position, from the summit you can enjoy a 360-degree view that sweeps from nearby Monte Nero, Mangart, Škrlatica, Triglav, Canin and Montasio to the Dolomites (recognisable among others are the Antelao, Marmolada, Punta Tre Scarperi and the Tre Cime di Lavaredo) all the way to Istria and the Friulian coast. On the summit stands the Church of Christ the Redeemer, built on the rubble of the previous chapel destroyed during the battle of Caporetto. On the western side of the mountain, not far from the peak, is the Dom na Matajure hut, located at 1554 m.a.s.l., while on the southern side, in the locality of Savogna, is the Pelizzo hut at 1320 m.a.s.l., from which the peak can be easily reached in about 45 minutes.
