Description: Lom Homolák is located about 4 kilometers from the Koněprusy Caves, in the Bohemian Karst. The extensive quarry in the Koněprusy Devonian was opened at the end of the nineteenth century. In 1918, the quarry was acquired by the joint-stock company Škoda Works, which wanted to secure quality lime from its own sources for its steelworks. And until the 50s, the quarries were not equipped with any mechanization. In 1958, chamber blasting began and a bucket loader was procured for the quarry. In 1961, a new electric excavator was put into operation (annual extraction in 1958 was 74,000 tons, in 1961 then 224,500 tons). Mining at Homolák ended in 1984.
