The Franz-Fischer-Hütte (2,020 m) in Salzburg was awarded the coveted environmental quality seal of the Alpenverein in 2021. Its unique feature: For three years, only vegetarian and vegan dishes have been on the daily menu. But nutrition is just one puzzle piece among many – in the first episode of alpenverein basecamp, we talk to the young hut management couple Evelyn Faber and Tom Burger about what it means to run a hut holistically sustainably. And whether a hut menu without bacon dumplings and schnitzel really polarizes that much.
