Description:
In this part of the series, I want to introduce you to Falkenstein Castle. The castle rises above the Selketal and is one of the most famous almost completely preserved high medieval castle complexes. Built between 1120 and 1180, it is the place where one of the most important legal texts of the Middle Ages originated, which Eike von Repgow noted here as the 'Sachsenspiegel'. It is also interesting that the castle was in the possession of the same family from the late Middle Ages until the end of World War II, until it was expropriated.
