From Malga Fratte to the Rock City

24-06-2021: Arriving at contrada Lazzaretti, leave the main road and keeping left climb up to Malga Fratte. After parking carefully not to disturb the malga's activities, continue the hike along the dirt road climbing towards Malga Lora. Upon reaching near Malga Lora, climb towards Monte Castelgomberto leaving the Italian war cemetery on the right. Climb traversing the Italian trenches carved into the living rock of typical red ammonitic rock of the whole area; upon reaching the summit, find the imposing monument with the poet's epitaph. From the summit of Monte Castelgomberto descend towards the “selletta Stringa” dedicated to the Commander of the Foza Alpine Group, then Lt. Pirio Stringa, heroic defender along with his men of Monte Castelgomberto and Monte Fior. Here is also the monument to the Trentino irredentist Guido Brunner, Gold Medal for Military Valor. On the left we can notice Malga Lora; command post during the Great War of the heroic Sassari Brigade. Climb the slopes of Monte Fior up to 1824 m.a.s.l., then head south to the summit of Monte Meletta where we cross the dirt road that will take us back towards Malga Lora and our starting point Malga Fratte.
