Description: © CLAUDIO MORTINI °° From the end of April, this natural spectacle can be seen. Spring paints Valnerina (PG) with the colors of the Judas tree.
According to tradition, it is called 'Judas tree' because a medieval legend born to explain the appearance of flowers on the bare bark even before the leaves tells that under this tree Judas Iscariot kissed Jesus and later, overwhelmed by remorse for betraying him, hanged himself there. This legend is very likely also linked to the fact that the Judas tree had a particular significance in pre-Christian European cults.
