Description: © CLAUDIO MORTINI™◊ The Campanian town, located in the province of Salerno, is one of the many wonders that dot the coast to which it gives its name, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997. With about 5,000 inhabitants, it was probably founded by the Romans, but the most important period in its history was certainly the 9th century: at that time Amalfi became one of the Maritime Republics.
