Description: Gran Monte is a mountain chain of the Julian Prealps about 27 km long extending between Italy and Slovenia (where it is called Stol), between Caporetto and the Torre stream near Pradielis. The hike started from Montemaggiore / Brezje and following trail 742 we reached Punta di Montemaggiore (1613 meters), located near the Slovenian border. From here, traversing almost the entire ridge in Italian territory we reached Punta Lausciovizza (1625 meters), below which stands the A.N.A. Monteaperta refuge, Sella Kriz (1529 meters) and Monte Briniza (1636 meters), the highest peak of the chain. From here, following trail 710 we descended towards Monteaperta / Viškorša. In total we covered 12 km and 1120 meters elevation gain. The ridge path is very panoramic ranging from the Adriatic Sea, the Friulian plain and surrounding peaks (Chiampon, Musi, Zaiavor, Canin group, Cimone, Matajur), Slovenian Julians (Krn, Mangart, Škrlatica, Triglav) to the Dolomites (Cridola, Antelao, Pelmo, Cristallo).
