'The area of the Vallons de la Meije to La Grave is unique in the world. Just a cable car that takes skiers to 3200m. Up there, a small chairlift serves a piste on the glacier. Apart from these facilities, nothing or rather...everything: off-piste routes on glacier, in bowls, couloirs, in forest. Nearly 2000 m of vertical drop of pure mountain. Here outside the single marked piste, no securing of the area, no pisteurs. Skiers progress under their own responsibility. In the image of this area, the system set up by La Grave is, to our knowledge, unique in the world. We are four patrollers, employed by the commune. Our role: to have an eye on the safety conditions of the area, to play a role of gentle prevention with the clientele and a advisory role with the commune for the opening or not of the cable car.'
