Herzogstand Heimgarten crossing in winter is a special winter hike at Walchensee. Start is the valley station of the cable car to Herzogstand. From here a narrow but good hiking trail leads up to the Berggasthof Herzogstand. The hut invites for a short break. From here it goes right past the Berggasthof Herzogstand towards the summit cross and pavilion. First you pass the summit cross and then you can also see the pavilion. The ascent to the ridge is west below the pavilion and well marked with signs. The crossing to Heimgarten is an interesting hike in winter for experienced hikers. In any case, don't forget poles, crampons, gaiters. Depending on snow conditions, the ridge is either good or strenuous to traverse. From Heimgarten it goes back down the circular path to the parking lot of the valley station of the cable car.
