INCREDIBLE winter hike at Big Pine Lakes

The Big Pine Lakes area is known for having some of the most beautiful hikes in California. Most hikers will typically take a single day or multi day backpacking out and back route to the second or third lake, but for those interested in an extra challenge, the trail extends beyond to what seems to be a mythical seventh lake. Does it exist? No one really knows. After the first major snow storm of the season, we decided it would be the perfect opportunity to hike Big Pine Lakes in fresh snow and see how far we could get. Unfortunately, no one was quite as crazy as us to want to attempt hiking to seventh lake in knee deep snow, which made it one incredibly tough, but insanely gorgeous climb. This is one can't miss winter hike for any adventurous California hiker!
