At the Sernftalstrasse in Lochsite there is a place where the so-called Glarner Hauptüberschiebung, i.e. the thrusting of new rocks (shale) over old rocks (Verrucano) during the formation of the Alps is particularly impressively visible. This place is the most famous geological outcrop in Switzerland. This site proves the theory of Alpine folding, which geologists had long doubted. Lochsite is to become an important attraction of the planned UNESCO World Heritage 'Glarner Hauptüberschiebung'.
