The Teide, Pic du Teide or Pic de Teide, in Spanish Pico del Teide, is a volcano of Spain located in the Canary Islands, on the island of Tenerife. With 3,715 or 3,718 meters altitude, according to sources, it constitutes the highest point of this archipelago but also of Spain, exceeding by about 300 meters the Aneto, highest summit of the Spanish Pyrenees, and by about 240 meters the Mulhacén, highest summit of mainland Spain. It is also the third largest volcano in the world from its base, after Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, in Hawaii. Its strong eruptive activity, very fluid lava flows and proximity to densely populated areas have led volcanologists to include it in the list of Decade Volcanoes.
