Description:
The ruins of Markazi Castle are located 1.5 kilometers northwest of the center of Markaz village, on the southern side of the 460-meter-high Várbérc.
The castle was presumably built by the Kompolti family belonging to the Aba genus in the 1270s-80s. The castle had no military significance; it was used for rest and hunting. The small, narrow fortress with a limited ground plan was essentially a walled castle palace and a small courtyard. On its southeastern side, the wall still stands 6 meters high today. The castle was most likely destroyed during the Turkish occupation.
