Description:
For discovery- and exploration-enthusiastic people, this is exactly the right place to track down the rather sparse remains of this once so powerful castle complex in the dense mixed forest.
The Mitterberg castle ruin is located east of the town of Perg, hidden in the forest. Formerly, Mitterberg was the largest castle in the Mühlviertel and after Schaunburg Castle (municipality of Hartkirchen) the second largest in the area of present-day Upper Austria. From 1278 to 1491 it was the seat of the large Machland regional court.
