16/4/17 Ascent to Monte Bregagno starting from Breglia
From Menaggio, we drive up to Monti di Breglia and continue to the end of the road where we find a small parking lot. From here we take a nice path that climbs in switchbacks through birch woods and among fern plants, offering already remarkable views of Lake Como. After about 30 min of walking we find a fork: left to Rifugio Menaggio and Monte Grona, right to Sant'Amate and Bregagno. We follow the latter direction. A path that diagonally cuts the mountain, overlooking the lake, takes us to Sant'Amate, a modest chapel placed in a strategic position on a panoramic grassy saddle (Sella di Sant'Amate, precisely), with a view of a large slice of Lake Como (East) and Val Sanagra and Lake Lugano (West).
