Description: Monte Rosso (Roteck in German) is a mountain in the Elmo/Col Quaternà chain overlooking the villages of Moso, Sesto and Comelico. Not very high, grassy summit apparently insignificant, yet this mountain is a concentrate of beauty, both from a panoramic, geological, botanical and historical point of view, in fact here Italians and Austrians clashed harshly during the First World War and where in August 1915 the Italian infantry was sent to the massacre. Monte Roteck is part of the Carnic Alps and the physiognomy of the Carnic ridge, with its dark profiles and rounded shapes, contrasts sharply with the bright, rugged, jagged crests of the Dolomites. Definitely interesting are the outcrops of the remains of the ancient volcano of Col Quaternà with the old central chimney formed by more resistant lava rock.
