Description:
The contribution presents a rather unknown sport, competitive ice climbing. The first known competition in this sport was already in 1912 in Courmayeur on the Brenva glacier. It was organized by the inventor of classic crampons, who wanted to demonstrate the advantages of crampons over cutting steps in this way. Following this competition, there were also competitions in Russia (formerly USSR), which began in 1970.
