Musala (2925 m) is the highest peak in Bulgaria and on the Balkans, on Rila mountain (also the namesake national park), located in the southwestern part of Bulgaria and about 80 km from Sofia. The name comes from Musa Allah (Mountain of Allah) from the time when Bulgaria was under Turkish rule.
