Description: The castle is one of the spatially smallest structures of the 13th century that feature a subdivision with a bergfried, palas, chapel, courtyard, and gate complex. In the 12th and 13th centuries, that area was in the possession of the Counts of Plain-Hardegg. An 'Ortolfus de Nonnekke' appears for the first time in a Plainer charter already in 1183. In 1220, 'Chunradus de Niweneke', apparently a knight of the Counts of Plain-Hardegg, is mentioned. The family is documented several more times until 1313, but likely lost the castle thereafter.
