Description:
The 'Pécsvárad Castle' is a fortified former monastic monastery founded by King St. Stephen in 998 after the defeat of Koppány. The stone building standing here, which was Prince Géza's court, was given by Stephen to Astricus to establish a home for Benedictine monks. It was the second Benedictine monastery in Hungary; the first, in Pannonhalma, was founded by Prince Géza in 996.
