Description:
The white ptarmigan, Lagopus mutus, measures about 34-37 cm in length with a wingspan of 55-60 cm, weight from 330 to 560 g. (It could be compared to a pigeon)
The plumage color changes throughout the seasons to best camouflage with the surrounding environment; thus, it is completely white in winter with a black beak, while in summer the female resumes the brownish-reddish coloration and the male assumes a brownish-gray one, with the beak becoming brown for both.
