From Sondrio we go up to Valmalenco, passing through Chiesa and continuing to San Giuseppe and Chiareggio. Once there, we go down to the parking lot by the Mallero riverbank (1612m) and, without going back to the village, we walk following the dirt track (signs for rifugio Del Grande Camerini and Alpe Forbesina) that leads to the pine forest of Pian del Lupo, crosses it and reaches the bridge over Mallero del Muretto. Beyond the bridge, always following the signs for rifugio Del Grande-Camerini and yellow triangles of the Alta Via della Valmalenco, stage III, we take a path on the right that, ignoring a left deviation, leads to a wooden footbridge and to the edge of the lower Alpe di Vazzeda (1832m), which we leave on our right, immediately turning left and climbing a steep grassy ridge. At the end of the ridge, we find the path (on which yellow triangles, red-white-red flags and white-blue-white ones alternate as markers), which turns north-northwest (i.e. right), crossing a strip of sparse vegetation, before reaching the upper Alpe di Vazzeda (2020m), to which we arrive passing through a narrow door in the rock. A sign on a large boulder indicates that turning right leads up to Bocchetta del Forno: we ignore it and continue on the stage III of the Alta Via della Valmalenco (yellow triangles), climbing the meadows of the alp and crossing a sort of corridor between outcropping rocks. The path then winds into a strip of sparse larches. After this steep section, the path turns left and starts a long traverse, with more moderate slope, crossing numerous streams and proceeding straight south-southwest first, then south-southeast, up to about 2475 meters, where it turns right taking a westward direction. After a short ascent among rocks, we are at the rifugio Del Grande-Camerini (2564m).
