The Rifugio Giorgio Dal Piaz, located within the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park on the Vette Feltrine, lies along the Alta Via 2 of the Dolomites; for those traversing it from Feltre, it is the first opportunity to sleep at altitude and savor the mountain air, while for those going in the opposite direction, it is the starting point of the last stage to Pedavena-Feltre near Italy's largest brewery. The structure is near the Busa delle Vette, a vast glacial cirque also known as the 'Busa delle Meraviglie' for rare botanical species like Alisso dell'Obir and Speronella alpina. The same mountain group, Vette Feltrine, boasts great floral diversity with peak blooming usually between June and July, creating a wonderful spectacle. In recent years, the refuge has gained appreciation for the manager Mirco's specialty: 'focaccia'! Made with organic yeast rising for at least 48 hours and stone-ground flours; topped with mozzarella, tomato, raw-cut vegetables, and pancetta. Alternatively, various other dishes are available, mostly using local products.
