Road to Kel-Suu Lake, located in the southeastern part of Kyrgyzstan, a few kilometers from the Chinese border. The lake is in a border zone, surrounded by vast desert, at an altitude of 3500 meters. Entry to the border zone requires a special permit issued by Kyrgyz authorities. A quality off-road vehicle and experience driving in difficult terrain are necessary. Besides fording the river, deep ruts, and exposed boulders, rain is a major hazard, turning the entire route through pastures into a large skating rink.
