Description: Rodnei Mountains - 13 February 2021 Rodnei Mountains, Musceta Peak 1899m For Saturday 13.02.2021 we had scheduled a hike in the Rodnei Mountains, specifically a leisurely walk in the alpine area with ascent to Musceta Peak 1899m. We started from Complex Borsa around 10:30, taking the chairlift to 1400m altitude. Extremely cold weather was forecast, so we equipped accordingly, with hot tea and extra gloves. Once out of the forest, the wind started blowing and fog came in waves. We didn't get discouraged and continued climbing to Musceta Peak. Meanwhile, the wind intensified and visibility sometimes dropped below 10m. A few people wanted to turn back and Alex I. took them down safely. The rest of the participants wanted to continue so in 45 minutes we reached the summit. We found a spot sheltered from the wind where we had a bar and hot tea, then turned back. Meanwhile, the blizzard erased much of our tracks, but without orientation problems. Some participants preferred to descend by chairlift, others visited Cascada Cailor too. In conclusion, it was a more difficult hike than expected due to weather conditions. We tasted a bit of the 'whiteout' sensation and realized how important it is to equip properly. This time we prepared according to the forecast, but such severe weather episodes can surprise us anytime in the mountains - without warning. We must always be prepared! Thanks to the participants for the effort and discipline shown!
