Description: A bus takes you all the way up to the clinic in Walenstadtberg. From here, the road leads you steeply uphill. If you hate walking on concrete roads, this tour might not be for you, since you'll be walking on one until Schwaldis Alp. The views up to the Churfirsten towering above and across the Walensee to the mountain panorama beyond make up for it though. Beautiful views abound! The 'Paxmal', a piece monument and labor of love, built by Karl Bickel between 1924 and 1949, is an additional attraction of this hike. Mr. Bickel was a graphic designer who created post stamps, among other things, and gifted the monument to the Swiss Post on his death. Called a power spot, the Paxmal is a very moving art piece and well worth the small detour. From Schwaldis, the path descends through grassy areas and enters the forest on top of cliffs. From time to time, you catch a glimpse of the abyss and the cliff faces below, which is rather thrilling. Be sure to pick a nice resting spot and enjoy the view, before returning to Walenstadtberg.
