Description:
Royal castle from the end of the 14th century, built on the order of Wenceslaus IV.
The castle is first mentioned in 1398. From the beginning, it was designed as a representative, architecturally highly advanced building. After Renaissance modifications carried out by the lords of Vartemberk and Lobkowicz, it was used until the period of the Thirty Years' War, during which it fell into disrepair. Only the former royal palace was well maintained thereafter, its representative hall was baroque-modified in the 18th century into a pilgrimage chapel of St. Bartholomew. The last noble owner, Josef Colloredo-Mannsfeld, owned the castle until 1923. Točník, whose development was violently interrupted by the Hussite revolution, still represents one of the pinnacles of the development of Czech castles at the end of the 14th century.
