The ruins of Freyenstein Castle (Freienstein) are the remains of a hill castle. It is located in the Strudengau on the Danube bank about four kilometers northeast of the town of Neustadtl.
The strategically favorable location of the castle formerly allowed control of shipping on the Danube.
