Description: Pajštún was part of the border castle system in the Little Carpathians, taking over from the 13th century the role of protecting the northwest borders of the Hungarian state. The origins of the royal castle date to the second half of the 13th century. Documented in 1273. From the 14th century, it belonged continuously to the counts of Svätý Jur and Pezinok until 1526, when the family died out and properties passed to the Serédy family and later Salm family. From 1592 to 1867, it belonged to the Pálffy family, later Károlyi family. The castle burned in the mid-18th century, was partially repaired and used further. Since 1809, when demolished by Napoleonic troops, it lies in ruins.
