Description:
Monte Siera, the 'Spitz', is the symbol mountain of Sappada. A splendid dolomitic peak with wild ridges and impressive walls, but it has no 'easy' accesses and is therefore ascended quite rarely. The normal route should not be underestimated: it is long and demanding, something halfway between hiking and alpinism, but greatly satisfying for the splendid panoramas opening on the Carnic Alps and Dolomites. The route follows a truly impressive dark gorge, where constant I/II grade difficulties must be faced with a key passage of abundant II (two chimneys in series). It can be done without rope (if very experienced), but better to bring it and descend the first chimney in rappel. For less experienced or those wanting protection at other points there are various pegs near the most difficult passages.
