Description:
Ski mountaineering excursion on the Sciliar massif to the Bolzano Hut - Schlernhaus. Located at 2457 meters altitude, it is almost at the top of the Sciliar plateau, below the Pez summit. I started from Compaccio on the Alpe di Siusi, first reaching Malga Gstatsch and then the Saltner hut, both closed. From there, crossing a bridge over rio Nero, I went under the wall and following trail 5 reached the plateau. From here, fantastic view on Sassolungo Sassopiatto, Latemar and the Catinaccio group, with clearly visible Denti di Terrarossa, Catinaccio d'Antermoia, Torri del Vajolet and Cima Catinaccio. Excursion of 26 km and 1100 meters elevation gain.
