Description:
Ferrata Silvano De Franco Two options are available: take the cable car to Piani d'Erna (comfortable solution) or take path no. 5, following signs to Rifugio Stoppani and Rifugio Azzoni (count at least an additional hour and a half for the ascent). We will describe the route ascending by cable car to Piani d'Erna. From the upper cable car station descend a few meters to the left, taking path no. 5 (signs for path no. 1 - Rifugio Azzoni - Summit). First ascend through the woods, passing Pian della Beduletta (1320 m) and the sign (left) for the start of the difficult Ferrata Gamma Uno. Cross the base of Canalone Comera to ascend to the upper Pian Serrada, towards Passo della Sibretta (1665 m), with magnificent view of Lecco and its mountains. An equipped passage allows safe access to Canalone di Val Nigra, which is ascended for a short stretch along its right orographic bank. A little further, at what is called 'Omm de Sass', the deviation for the via ferrata branches off to the left (1 hour 15' from Piani d'Erna, 2 hours 45' from the cable car base). The route is equipped with a recently made chain with large links, overcoming towers and slabs, interspersed with short sections of path, grass and earth. The risers are often quite difficult, but the rock, excellent worked limestone, always provides the right security and adequate abrasiveness. About halfway up, one encounters the only metal stirrup that helps, in what is considered the key passage (slightly overhanging), to overcome a small pillar. From here it is necessary to descend to the opposite side along the chain, unfortunately interrupted a couple of meters from the ground (attention, it is necessary to unclip and climb down). A sheer passage over the underlying Canalone Comera leads to the last easy rock steps, to the end of the structures, near a small iron cross. A few meters further is the summit of Punta Cermenati (1875 m, about 1 hour of via ferrata route
