The Etna (Mungibeddu or 'a Muntagna in Sicilian) is a Sicilian volcanic complex originated in the Quaternary and represents the highest active terrestrial volcano of the Eurasian Plate. Its frequent eruptions over the course of history have modified, sometimes even deeply, the surrounding landscape, coming several times to threaten the populations that over the millennia have settled around it.
