ROUTE: From Rifugio Lunelli ascend towards Rifugio Berti roughly following the summer path. Once at the same level as Berti, leave it on the right and head straight to the walls of the Popera campanili (two beautiful spires already visible from Rifugio Lunelli). At their base on the left starts the Witzenmann-Oppel canalone, ascend the first 100m on skis until it narrows, then continue on foot with skis in backpack. After 250m of elevation gain in the canalone with pitches up to 45° reach a small col, with slight descent enter left into a wider less difficult channel, leave it near the rocks traversing right to another col. Here starts the most demanding and exposed part of the ascent, the famous 'Imbuto', after it cross another exposed but slightly easier section to the final ridge to the summit.
