Over the weekend we ended up in South Tyrol at Gantkofel. Gantkofel (1866 m a.s.l., Italian Monte Macaion) is the northeastern cornerstone of the Mendel ridge, a 35 km long mountain chain on the border between South Tyrol and Trentino, which drops steeply west of Bolzano to the Etschtal valley and the Überetsch landscape.
