Description:
Canadian Will Gadd and Briton Tim Emmett climbed the first 30 meters of what is now one of the world's most famous ice climbs – Spray On – in Canada in January 2010. The falls have received massive media attention ever since, both in professional and lay circles. The first climbers rated it WI10. The highest ice climbing grade at the time was WI7, so they raised the scale by three full grades. Nothing like this has happened in any other grading in the entire climbing world. Moreover, it's a unique route in a majestic setting with unusual dimensions: a river of falling water, temperatures 30 degrees below zero, car-sized ice candles, and specific shattered ice (spray ice) that doesn't allow protection with screws. Due to the roaring water, communication is only possible via radio at 20 meters distance, and a metal detector is needed to find ice screws under the ice.
