Description:
The ruins of Szandavár lie on the 529-meter-high volcanic peak of Cserhát. The castle was built after the Tatar invasion, probably during the reign of King Béla IV as a royal castle. At the highest point, the remnants of the old tower wall rise 7-8 m high. Besides that, only the foundations of various rooms are visible. From the eastern cliff of the andesite cone, next to the weathered Hungarian flag, an enchanting panorama opens to the Nógrád region, the Cserhát ridges, and behind them the Mátra peaks.
