It is located on the main watershed between Italy and France, between the Italian Valle Stura di Demonte and the French Vallée de la Tinée.
The normal route to the summit from the Italian side involves reaching the Colle del Tenibres at 2940 m, northwest of the summit, and from there ascending to the top.
