Greppolischieto, small castle rising on the southern borders of the municipality of Piegaro (657 meters) and recently renovated by Anna Fendi, noted Roman stylist. It is currently used as a private residence and only three families reside there permanently. The origins are unknown but the first settlement could be traced back to survivors of the destruction of the nearby city of Fallera, an ancient type of collective construction from prehistoric or protohistoric times. Greppolischieto between the 11th and 12th centuries was fiercely contested between Orvieto and Marsciano but then fell under the Perugian orbit. In the 1282 census the site is classified as a villa with 24 hearths (families). The walls are built and authorized by the Perugian magistrates with the intent to strengthen the extreme limits of the county.
