Description: © CLAUDIO MORTINI™ Giano dell’Umbria PG is a small intact medieval village located in a panoramic position overlooking the Umbrian valley, in the extraordinary scenery of the Monti Martani. The castle of Giano, an ancient Roman pagus named Ianus, probably derives its name from the homonymous pagan divinity: Janus. Ancient rural settlement, arisen in Roman times near the Via Flaminia Vetus, an important artery connecting Rome to the Adriatic Sea, has much older origins dating back to the Umbrians.
