Long overshadowed by the main alpine chain, the Orobie and Lombard Prealps are experiencing a rediscovery phase linked to the increasingly widespread practice of winter mountaineering. During the harsh Orobic winters, characterized by abundant precipitation and marked thermal excursions, walls at moderate altitudes transform into wild glacial slopes: the ideal playground for a growing number of enthusiasts who, armed with ice axes and crampons, trace their steps along ice lines of every difficulty. In addition to the numerous now classic couloirs, ideal for first steps with crampons on, new ice and modern mixed routes are added each year on almost unexplored slopes, where climbers' imagination still finds full freedom of expression.
