Description: Učka is known for the magnificent view from the tower at Vojak peak, however for cycling the macadam roads on the plateau south of the peak are much more interesting. I started at dawn from Mošćenica, actually I was a bit late because I circled the town for a long time. Narrow asphalt road, then macadam where steeper climbs are concreted, finally steep climb and loose surface until I reached 850m. Beautiful view of Vojak and the interior. Super macadam with little elevation and tall pines that resemble palms in Miami more. Another climb before Mala Učka and I reach a beautiful meadow with sea and Rijeka view. From here the trail I followed (bike trail 8, PP Učka) descends to Lovran then follows the road back to Mošćenica. I was smarter and descended directly through the forest where I saw a trail on Google Earth. The trail exists but is very overgrown so I had to bushwhack for about a kilometer to the macadam on the other side. I covered 35 km with 1150 m ascent total. Ten years ago, while writing for Biker Magazin, my wife and I rode here for two days, slept in a guesthouse on Poklon.
